The Putnam County Fraternal Order of Police recently conducted its 21st consecutive Shop with a Cop program in Greencastle.

More than 30 children were assisted with back-to-school supplies and clothes at this year’s event.

Students from all four school districts were requested by project coordinator Tara Baugh with recommendations from each of the school’s counselors. Additional families were provided by the professionals from the local office of the Indiana Department of Child Services.

Cops, kids and carts full of school supplies and clothes lined the aisles for a couple of hours at the Greencastle Walmart. Twenty-two FOP members from the Greencastle Police Department, Indiana State Excise Police, Putnam County Sheriff’s Department and the Bainbridge Police participated in this year’s shop.

FOP President Ed Wilson is grateful to all who support this program.

“This is our keystone philanthropic event each year and without the communities financial support each summer, this event would never happen, and we know it,” wrote Wilson. “We thank all of those who made a donation to support our programs.”

Remember the days when cops used to dress like uniformed civil servants and not para-military cowboys?

    Ahhh, the good ol' days.

Nowadays they desensitize the community to para-military law enforcement commandos by having them perform do-goodery in their para-military commando gear.
