Indicative of further analysis to be done as the deconstruction of the Foxx/Jones farmhouse enters its final stages, many historical pieces have been recovered and preserved at the former site of DePauw University’s campus farm. Professor Jen Everett of the Environmental Fellows Program holds up one bit of this history in a weathered piece of The Daily Banner from 1969 during a community takeaway Saturday. Three layers of newspapers dating from 1943, 1957 and 1969 were uncovered with accompanying layers of linoleum, all of which was likely used as a kind of insulation for the house’s floor. Pieces of the home’s wooden frame were also available, much of which was local tulip poplar used during the original construction in 1846 by the Albaugh family, as well as renovations done by the Torr family in 1878. Professor Jim Mills and Environmental Fellow Cecilia Slane also joined in, marveling at the content on some of the scraps which lay inside a garage that still remains on the property. The trio also inquired as to how community members would repurpose the donated pieces they took in other projects.
