Ivy Tech Community College celebrated 19 graduates of the school’s licensed practical nursing (LPN) certification program recently during a ceremony on its campus in Greencastle.

About 80 people attended the ceremony, which was conducted in the entrance hall of the Greencastle campus facility.

“We are very proud of these graduates, as they are truly helping to meet the health care needs of the community and the region,” Campus Vice Chancellor Greg Cook said.

Ivy Tech’s practical nursing program is an integral part of the college’s health care focus. The practical nursing technical certificate prepares students to care for patients in a variety of health care settings, such as hospitals, convalescent centers, clinics, home care and physician offices.

Graduates are eligible to apply to the state licensure exam (NCLEX-PN) and become a licensed practical nurse.

Licensed practical nursing is a high-demand occupation with a current annual salary of $42,440, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

In addition, the Greencastle campus also offers a licensed practical nursing certificate to Associate of Science in Nursing transitional track degree program.

The program application deadline for the transitional track to associate’s degree is Sept. 1. More information can be found at www.ivytech.edu/nursing.
