Funeral homes offer free Shred-It event in Greencastle

Thursday, August 15, 2019

Anyone needing to securely get rid of sensitive documents is invited to the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home parking lot on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 24.

From 8-11 a.m. that day, Bittles & Hurt and Hopkins-Rector funeral homes will be sponsoring a free Community Shred-It event, offering local residents the chance to rid themselves of certain personal documents in a way that does not risk identity theft or fraud.

Community Shred-It events raise awareness about identity theft and fraud by reminding community residents about the importance of securely destroying personal documents. These events are conducted in communities all over North America and offer residents an opportunity to have their personal documents destroyed for free by on-site shredding trucks.

In a single day, one Community Shred-It event can serve 2,000 or more community members and recycle more than 70 tons of paper.

The event is only for paper document destruction, therefore no non-paper products can be accepted.

Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home is located at 4 Percy L. Julian Dr., Greencastle.
