Traffic was restricted to one lane for a while and a woman was transported to the hospital for precautionary reasons in a two-vehicle crash on Indianapolis Road Friday afternoon.

At 2:51 p.m., Greencastle Police officers were dispatched to Indianapolis Road in front of the Marathon gas station for a two-vehicle crash.

Officers arrived to find that Timothy Sabens, 50, Bainbridge, had been stopped westbound in a Chevrolet Tahoe when he was rear-ended by Damion Weist, 24, Greencastle, in a Subaru Outback.

Weist told Officer Jared McDaniel he noticed too late that Sabens was stopped and could not get his vehicle stopped in time.

Weist’s passenger, 25-year-old Chelsi Benassi, Greencastle, complained of neck and back pain. Additionally, Benassi is pregnant, so Operation Life transported her to the hospital for observation.

Traffic was restricted to one lane as Greencastle firefighters cleared the scene of debris and Weist’s vehicle was towed.

Fellow GPD officers Sgt. Ed Wilson and Darrel Bunten assisted with traffic control.
