HSPC to host Community Celebration

Monday, September 9, 2019

The Humane Society of Putnam County is inviting the community to attend the free second-annual Community Celebration at the animal shelter on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 1-4 p.m.

Five years ago, the Humane Society of Putnam County entered into a unique public-private partnership with the Putnam County Commissioners and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, which owns and operates the shelter.

Since that time, the animal shelter has reopened to the public. Strong community support from donations, fundraisers and proceeds from Rescued Treasures have provided shelter and care for homeless cats and dogs in Putnam County.

Hundreds of pets have found homes. In addition, since the shelter has reopened, improvements such as kennel rest benches, kennel gates, new cat condos, quarantine kennels, a remodeled cat intake building, a privacy fence, outside dog runs with roofs and a covered deck have been made.

The Humane Society is honored to work with the county and the shelter staff with the shared goal of finding “fur-ever” homes.

The Community Celebration is a “thank you” to all those individuals, businesses, volunteers, DePauw students, the county, animal foster families, adoption families, donors and the customers at Rescued Treasures for supporting the shelter.

There will be shelter tours, bounce houses, free food and dog agility demonstrations during the event.

The shelter is located at 4700 E. State Rd. 240, Greencastle.
