County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 11:12 a.m. Claude N. Terrell IV, 45, Indianapolis, as lodged at the ail for nonsupport of a dependent child.

• At 9:48 a.m. Nicholas Leon Bennett, 29, Greencastle, was taken into custody on an out-of-county warrant and driving with a suspended license.

• At 6:39 a.m. Emmett S. McMahon, 20, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

Saturday

• At 11:26 p.m. Richard Lee Wood, 57, Roachdale, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 5:30 p.m. Cody Austin Batchelor, 24, Bainbridge, was lodged at the jail for invasion of privacy.

Friday

• At 8:04 p.m. Matthew Paul Carter, 41, Brazil, was taken into custody on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 3:41 p.m. Jonathan Joseph Alexander, 27, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine and resisting law enforcement.

• At 9:44 a.m. Manuel Ortiz Madonado Jr., 66, Coatesville, was booked in for failure to register as a sex or violent offender.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Kendyl P. Dobson, 18, Cloverdale, was eastbound on County Road 25 South near 175 West in a 2016 Toyota Corolla when she hit a deer.

Deputy Jeffery Freeman estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 6 p.m. on Saturday, Kayla L. Pace, 19, Coatesville, was eastbound on State Road 240 in a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze when she met a large truck.

Pace told Deputy Daniel Birt the truck as uncomfortably close, crowding the west edge of her lane.

Pace’s vehicle dropped off the edge of the rand and then she overcorrected, shooting across the road and exiting the other side.

Birt estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, Willard L. Kendall, 68, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 25 South near U.S. 231 in a 1994 GMC pickup when he ran off the side of the road and the truck rolled onto its side.

Deputy Kyle Lee arrived to find Kendall out of the vehicle. He was checked out by medics but transported to the hospital.

The vehicle was towed. Lee estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 5:30 a.m. on Friday, Shelby M. Stevens, 23, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 just north of County Road 900 North in a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze when she hit a tree that had fallen in the road.

Stevens was not injured.

Deputy Brian Helmer estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to seven recent dispatches:

• At 1:13 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 405 S. Jackson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived not long after but found the property vacant. It was determined the alarm had malfunctioned. GFD returned to station at 1:15 p.m.

• At 11:12 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Bishop Roberts Hall for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:15 and determined the alarm was due to burnt popcorn. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 11:21 p.m.

• At 6:35 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on County Road 25 South. Units arrived on the scene at 6:41 and assisted with patient care. GFD went back into service at 7:05 a.m.

• At 12:42 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:46 and determined the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 12:51 a.m.

• At 10:37 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 505 S. Jackson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived around 10:38 and determined the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was reset. GFD left at 10:42 a.m.

• At 10:13 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 410 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:15 and determined the alarm was activated by steam from a hand-held steamer. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 10:21 p.m.

• At 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 412 S. Jackson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:47 bur could not determine the cause of the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD left at 10:49 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed six medical assists during this time.
