After the entire design of a massive mural on the south side of Greencastle was sketched out in recent days, the westernmost silo at S & W Feed Center explodes with color Thursday afternoon as mural artist Key Detail’s eagle design really begins to take shape just off of the corner of U.S. 231 and Veterans Memorial Highway. Painting on the mural, which will feature agricultural, musical and rural themes on the remaining three silos, should continue daily (weather permitting) until Sunday, Sept. 29, when a block party celebrating the completion of one of Indiana’s largest murals will take place from 5-7 p.m.

Veterans Highway will be blocked for part of the afternoon and evening for setup and the party itself, which will include short statements from Key Detail, Mayor Bill Dory and Chris Flegal of the mural committee, as well as music from Tad Robinson. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase from local vendors. In the meantime, motorists in the area are encouraged to beware of lane shifts on Veterans Highway, as the artist uses the westbound shoulder area to access the silos.
