Construction workers strike gas main on Tennessee Street
Emergency personnel were called after a construction crew struck a gas main on Greencastle’s southeast side Monday morning.
The crew was doing construction work for new apartments being built near 820 Tennessee St.
The Greencastle Fire Department and Greencastle Police Department were dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:10 a.m. GFD was logged as arriving at 10:14 a.m.
According to GFD’s report on the incident, The leak was recorded as being contained at 10:29 a.m. The gas itself was shut off soon after.
The two-inch leak occurred when an excavator struck the gas main. However, no one was injured in the incident, and nearby residents were notified of the situation.
Vectren Energy was called to the scene and arrived at about 10:40 a.m., after which GFD was logged as going back into service.
