Mooresville man suffers head injury in motorcycle crash

Monday, October 7, 2019

A Mooresville man was seriously injured Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash.

At approximately 3:20 p.m., Larry Corbin, 58, Mooresville, was the lead motorcycle in a convoy on a 2015 Harley-Davidson FLH. The group was traveling on County Road 190 West.

A witness on another motorcycle told Deputy Tanner Brown that Corbin got too far to the right side of the road and got into loose gravel, causing him to lose control of the bike.

Brown’s investigation revealed that Corbin’s motorcycle left the roadway and the bottom part of the left foot stand struck the roadway, causing him to lose control.

After the motorcycle fell on its right side, both bike and rider slid for about 50 yards before coming to a stop.

Corbin, who was not wearing a helmet, was lying face down on the roadway after the incident. His companions said his pulse began growing faint, so they turned him onto his backside to treat as necessary.

Another woman who was on the scene, stabilizing Corbin’s head upon officers’ arrival, told Brown she was a trauma nurse and stopped to help when she saw people gathered around an injured person.

Operation Life and Cloverdale Volunteer Fire Department arrived to give patient car. The ambulance transported him to a landing zone, from which StatFlight transported him to St. Vincent Indianapolis.

His most serious injury was severe bleeding from his head.

Brown was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Riley Houghton.

  • He is a longtime friend/co-worker of mine. I cannot believe this happened. We are all still in shock. He did not survive the crash. If only he had been wearing a helmet. I’m sure everyone at scene did what they could and it is much appreciated.
