Still time to donate to Coats for Kids

Monday, October 7, 2019

The 20th Annual Coats for Kids Program is gearing up for Saturday, Oct. 26 distribution.

In the meantime, collection boxes remain in place, awaiting generous donations.

All four county School Corporations will end their campaign this Friday, Oct. 11 due to upcoming fall break.

Community collections will be received until Friday, Oct. 18 at the following locations: Old National Bank, Kroger, Teachers Credit Union, Putnam County Hospital, Purdue Extension Office, The Waters of Greencastle, Greencastle City Hall, Putnam County Youth Development Commission, Ivy Tech Community College and Heritage Lake.

“Your donations will ensure our children and families are warm for the cold and wintry months ahead,” Putnam County Youth Development Commission Director Linda Merkel said.

Remember, organizers are looking for new or gently used coats for infants all the way through young adults. The program cannot accept coats that are stained, have tears or need to be dry cleaned.

The Oct. 26 distribution will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Putnam County Fairgrounds, Harris Hall.

County residents also welcome to refer any family they believe will benefit from this community outreach. There are no qualifications needed, just make sure children accompany parents or guardians to ensure a correct fit.

Organizers also ask parents be prepared to share which school corporation in which they reside.

Anyone with questions may contact Merkel at the PCYDC at 653-9342 or lmerkel@pcydc.org.
