Three-car crash sends one to hospital
ROACHDALE -- One woman was sent to the hospital and three vehicles were damaged Thursday evening in a crash on U.S. 231 about a quarter mile north of County Road 1000 North.
Road construction was going on in the area, with flaggers stopping the traffic.
Rocky A. Osburn, 50, Poland, told Deputy Matt Biggs he was southbound in a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze and had almost come to a complete stop in the traffic backup when he impact at the rear of his vehicle.
Venice E. Benton, 41, Cloverdale, was southbound behind Osburn, slowing to a stop in a 2012 Kia Sorento.
Brandon S. Hall, 23, Greencastle, was also southbound in a 2015 Ford F-350. He told Biggs he had seen the caution ahead signs and reduced his speed to about 45 mph. He said he then looked up and saw Benton’s brake lights and tried to stop as quickly as possible.
However, Hall’s truck rear-ended Benton’s vehicle, pushing it into the back of Osburn’s car. All three vehicles were towed due to disabling damage.
PMH Ambulance transported Benton to Hendricks Regional Health in Danville with a complaint of back pain.
Osburn signed a statement of release with Operation Life, as did Hall and his passenger.
Biggs said the construction crew had signage up for “flagger ahead,” but it was about 150 yards prior to the traffic backup. Biggs said this may have contributed to the crash.
Damage was estimated at $25,000-$50,000.
