Saturday, October 12, 2019

In a meeting that took less than half an hour, the South Putnam School Board approved a handle of routine items during its regular October meeting Wednesday evening.

Without any further comments from the audience of three or themselves, board members approved the planned budget for 2020, as well as an established capital projects fund and school bus replacement plan. These will be able to be viewed on Gateway.

The board also approved a routine request by Superintendent Bruce Bernhardt to authorize and give permission to spend additional appropriations of $500,000 in the corporation’s rainy day fund. Bernhardt clarified that there are no set plans to spend this money except in cases of emergency. Unused appropriations will go away on Dec. 31.

The board also approved a request by Bernhardt for permission to replace two pickup trucks which are in disrepair. Bernhard said he planned to acquire two three-quarter-ton trucks, one of which will need to have a snow plow. Bernhardt said he would find the best offer he could, and that the purchases needed to be made before the winter season.

Board members also recognized South Putnam’s Students of the Month. Halleigh Wadell came from Central Elementary School, MaryJane Shircliff was recognized by Fillmore Elementary School, Amber Henigin represented South Putnam Middle School and Victoria Honey was honored by South Putnam High School.

The board also approved the following personnel report:

• Resignations: Robi Simms, elementary school counselor; Jenny Laser, MS/HS English teacher; Bobbi Siddons, MS/HS food service/co-head cook; Casey Rossok, Central Elementary instructional assistant; and Michelle Jordan, MS/HS custodian;

• New hires: Sharon Freeman, MS/HS food service; Tamara Dickens, MS/HS food service; Terri Canfield, bus monitor (part time); Erin Baker, Central Elementary instructional assistant; Shirley Knauer, MS/HS custodian; Tim Parrish, MS/HS custodian; and Rhonda Fisher, Central Elementary instructional assistant.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the South Putnam School Board is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in the South Putnam MS/HS Learning Center.
