Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated five recent property-damage crashes.

• At 2:40 p.m. on Saturday, Anita L. Thacker, 71, Greencastle, was westbound on State Road 240 near the Putnam County Animal Shelter in a 2002 GMC Sierra. Michael W. White, 54, Avon, was eastbound in a 2012 Nissan NV1500 van.

According to a witness who was following Thacker’s vehicle, she lost control of the truck on the wet road as it entered a curve. The witness said she attempted to regain control, but he truck crossed into the eastbound lane and hit White’s van nearly head-on.

The witness also said it did not appear that Thacker was speeding.

Deputy Kyle Lee arrived to find White’s van off the south side of the roadway on its side, while Thacker’s truck was on the north side of the road facing south.

Lee found Thacker lying across the seat of the truck with what he described as a clear fracture to her foot. Officers kept her stable until medics arrived.

White was entrapped in the van, covered in white paint that had spilled all over the inside of the van. He was also kept stable by officers until fire and EMS personnel arrived.

When the fire and medical personnel arrived, the drivers were removed from the vehicles and both were transported to the hospital.

Both vehicles were towed. Lee estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.

Other agencies on the scene included the Greencastle Police Department, Greencastle Fire Department, Fillmore Fire Department and Operation Life.

• At 11:49 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, Timothy J. Buckallew, 29, Plainfield, was westbound on State Road 240 in a 2003 Ford Escort.

As the vehicle passed through a curve, it left the road and hit a utility pole before rolling several times.

Buckallew told Deputy Anthony Brown he had consumed alcohol prior to the accident. An alcohol test was pending.

He was preliminarily charged with driving while intoxicated.

The car was towed. Brown estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.
