County Jail

Six people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Friday

• At 3:50 a.m. Herman Lee Allen Baker, 22, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for strangulation and domestic battery.

Thursday

• At 3:52 p.m. Hannah Kay Williams, 32, Crawfordsville, was booked in for criminal trespass.

• At 3:10 p.m. Bradley Carl Allen, 21, Brazil, was lodged at the jail on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 2:23 p.m. Bradley James Smith, 31, Indianapolis, was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license and false informing.

• At 1:56 p.m. Chester Franklin Blount, 27, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for driving with a suspended license.

• At 1:28 p.m. Ryan Page Wilson, 43, Tipton, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine and theft.

City Police

One recent theft case resulted in an arrest by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 6:42 p.m Tuesday, Officer Angela Taylor was called to the Walmart Superstore for a reported shoplifting.

Arrested for theft was Jessica Keyt, 39, Brazil, who attempted to make off with approximately $32 in merchandise that went unscanned at the U-scan station.

Police said Keyt had wrapped up a cellphone car holder and two spools of ribbon in a rug at the bottom of her cart. She reportedly scanned the rug but not the other items.

Keyt was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Three recent traffic citations were issued by city officers:

• At 5:04 a.m. Monday, Bryce Steadmon, 18, Greencastle, was stopped on North Arlington Street by Officer Alec Pettit.

Steadmon was ticketed for unreasonable speed in a 30-mph zone.

• At 10:27 p.m. Nov. 9, Tyler Covert, 19, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Luke Brown.

Ticketed for 55 mph in a 30-mph zone, Covert was stopped on Shadowlawn Avenue near Highfall Avenue.

• At 7:55 p.m. Nov. 9, Lynette Hodges, 44, Coatesville, was cited by Officer Pettit.

Stopped on Indianapolis Road, Hodges was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated six recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:10 p.m. on Thursday, Owen B. Richardson, 22, Jamestown, was eastbound on State Road 236 in a 2013 Ford Focus when he hit a deer.

The vehicle was towed. Deputy Daniel Birt estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 6:06 p.m. on Thursday, Steven T. Pemberton, 48, Pittsboro, was westbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 400 East in a 2016 Ford F-150 when he hit a deer.

The truck was towed. Deputy Jeffery Freeman estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Marshall E. Washington, 50, Bainbridge, was eastbound on U.S. 36 in a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado when a deer ran into the driver-side front and rear door.

Deputy Birt estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• Immediately following the previous accident, Matthew S. Huffman, 44, Greencastle, was westbound approaching the crash scene of a 2010 Dodge Charger registered to the City of Greencastle.

Huffman, a Greencastle police officer, told Deputy Birt he was assessing the scene and did not see a dead deer in his lane of travel until it was too late to avoid it.

Huffman drove over the deer, which became stuck under his car.

The officers were unsure of the extent of damage to the Charger, but Huffman requested a report for documentation.

Birt estimated damage at less than $1,000.

• At 1:08 a.m. on Monday, Tayler J. Bush, 22, Fillmore, was westbound on County Road 50 South at County Road 475 East in a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse when a deer ran into the road.

Bush told Deputy Freeman he swerved to miss the animal and entered the ditch, rolling several times before the vehicle came to rest on its side.

Bush suffered small head and hand lacerations and was taken to Hendricks County Hospital.

The vehicle was towed. Freeman estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, Michael L. Nicholas, 45, Carlisle, was westbound on U.S. 40 in a 2008 Pontiac G6 when he hit a deer.

Deputy Birt estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to two recent dispatches:

• At 12:35 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries near 750 Indianapolis Rd. Units arrived on the scene at 12:39 and assisted with patient care. GFD went back into service at 12:51 p.m.

• At 12:45 a.m. on Friday, GFD was requested by police to inspect an abandoned building at 2 Fairway Dr. which was reported as smoking. Firefighters arrived at 12:48 and investigated the property, but found no indication of a fire. GFD went back into service at 1:06 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed four medical assists during this time.
