A Florida man was taken to a Terre Haute hospital after he lost control of his semi on Interstate 70 and plunged down an embankment, coming to rest in a creek.

At about 6 a.m. Thursday, Michael D. Holliday, 61, Jacksonville, Fla., was westbound near the 35-mile marker of I-70.

Holliday told investigating officer Sgt. Matt Ames he had a mechanical issue on the left side of his 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer.

Holliday lost control, sending the vehicle into the grassy median, where it continued for approximately 400 yards before proceeding down a steep, earthen embankment, coming to an abrupt stop in the creek below.

Holliday was able to climb out of his vehicle with the assistance of first responders.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Holliday was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for a complaint of pain throughout his entire body.

Sgt. Ames was assisted at the crash scene by Senior Trooper Charlie Boller, Putnam County sheriff’s deputies, Operation Life, Cloverdale Fire Department, Indiana Department of Transportation and Curtis Wrecker Service.
