Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 10:31 a.m. on Saturday, Emily Potts, 26, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 375 East in a 2000 Toyota Camry.

Potts told Deputy Tanner Brown that as she came around a turn, the car started to hydroplane, sliding back and forth before sliding into the ditch. It continued in the ditch before hitting a mailbox.

Brown reported that the vehicle did not have valid, updated insurance at the time of the crash.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 8:59 a.m. on Saturday, Mark Douglass, 58, Cloverdale, was northbound on U.S. 231 approaching County Road 900 South in a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. Mark Goodman, 38, Spencer, was also northbound in a 2007 GMC Sierra.

Both vehicles were attempting to turn right onto 900 South.

Douglass told Deputy Brown he had his right turn signal on and as soon as the right turn lane began, he turned into it. He said that at that point, Goodman’s truck struck his Jeep.

However, Goodman told Brown he entered the right turn lane when it began and then Douglass turned in front of him. He said he tried to stop but could not avoid a collision.

Two witnesses from other cars gave the same story as Goodman, saying Goodman was already in the right turn lane when Douglass cut in front of him. One of the witnesses further stated that Douglass did not have his turn signal activated prior to the lane change.

Additionally, neither Douglass nor Goodman had valid insurance at the time of the incident.

Brown estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.
