Putnam Scanner for December 13, 2019

Four people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 2:11 p.m. Shane J. Waugh, 43, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail for intimidation.

Tuesday

• At 9:47 p.m. Cheryl L. Tomasik, 37, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 5:39 p.m. Thomas C. Tarr, 29, Orleans, was housed at the jail on an Orange County writ.

• At 3:16 p.m. Anthony M. Leonard, 24, Greencastle, was booked in for probation violation.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 3:25 p.m. on Monday, Chance B. Evens, 20, Greencastle, was northbound on State Road 243 in a 2007 International straight truck.

Evens told Deputy Matt Biggs that he carried too much speed into a 90-degree corner. He applied his brakes but slid through the corner and off the road, colliding with two state highway signs.

No damage was reported to the truck, which was driven from the scene.

Biggs estimated damage at less than $1,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to three recent dispatches:

• At 7:12 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 73 E. Ridgeland Ave. for a public assist call. Units arrived at 7:20 and helped replace batteries in a smoke detector. GFD went back into service at 7:30 a.m.

• At 2:45 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to the Greencastle Police Department’s station for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:49 and found that a smoke detector was dirty. The detector head was blown out, and GFD went back into service at 2:57 a.m.

• At 9:52 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:55 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 10:01 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed five medical assists and had three disregards between the first and second dispatches.
