Friday, December 13, 2019

Ivy Tech Community College Greencastle is one of several Ivy Tech campuses offering free addiction studies certifications to eligible students pursuing careers in addiction services in west central Indiana, paid for by the Duke Energy Foundation Scholarship.

Qualifying students must have already completed at least a bachelor’s degree and work in Hendricks, Putnam, Vigo, Clay, Gibson, Greene, Knox, Owen, Parke, Sullivan or Vermillion county.

The Duke Energy Scholarship seeks to build a workforce pipeline to combat opioid addiction by providing financial support to bachelor’s degree holders wishing to enter the field. Recipients of the scholarship will have 100 percent of their tuition, books and fees covered.

“Across our rural communities there has never been a greater need to respond to the addiction crisis,” said Dr. Treg Hopkins, site director for Ivy Tech Greencastle. “Now more than ever, we need people to be trained on how to help our friends, families and loved ones are suffering. Ivy Tech Community College in Greencastle is ready to respond by offering convenient options to those wishing to help.”

Gaining a certificate in Addictions Studies is ideal for those who are wishing to make a difference in Putnam County.

Individuals seeking professional licensure as a Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC) are encouraged to apply. Ivy Tech’s addiction studies certificate and technical certificate programs in human services contain the coursework required for qualification to take the LAC exam.
