Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, James Ferrell, 71, Indianapolis, was eastbound on Interstate 70 in a 2019 Toyota 4-Runner.

Ferrell told Deputy Tanner Brown that as he was traveling in the left lane, two vehicles passed him on the right and that’s when his vehicle left the road and entered the ditch, hitting a tree and coming to a stop. The vehicle traveled about 200 yards in the ditch.

Neither Ferrell nor his passenger reported injuries.

The vehicle was towed. Brown estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Kenneth L. Rasnake, 79, Coatesville, was approaching a downhill curve on Heritage Drive in the Gettysburg subdivision in a 2018 Buick Envoy.

The road was covered in ice at the time and Rasnake was unable to negotiate the curve, causing him to slide off the road and down an embankment into some trees.

The vehicle had to be retrieved but not towed from the scene.

Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle, assisted by Deputy Brian Helmer, estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.
