Bernard ‘Shug’ Wahl

Bernard “Shug” Wahl, 92, Greencastle, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019.

Born Jan. 24, 1927 in Dale, he was the son of Simon and Eleanor Katherine (Koenig) Wahl.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Navy.

Bernie was a union carpenter for over 40 years and served as the Greencastle building inspector for four years. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Carpenters Union and Deer Creek Coon Hunters Club.

He is survived by his children, John (Edie) Wahl, Adam (Michelle) Wahl, Scott (Sherri) Wahl, Denise Wahl (companion, Mike Anderson) and Hope (Eric) Shook; a brother, Jim (Doretha) Wahl; grandchildren, Shayna Wahl, Vanessa Wahl, Justin Wahl, Leshelle Wahl, Dominique Hughes and Craig Adams; and great-grandchildren, Jason and Hailey Pierce and Brody Hughes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Wahl; parents; great-grandson, Joseph Tyler; and 14 siblings.

Private graveside services with military honors will be held on Monday, Dec. 30 at Forest Hill Cemetery.
