Still no word about missing man Huff

Thursday, January 2, 2020

After nearly two weeks, authorities report nothing new on the disappearance of a 45-year-old Greencastle man reportedly last seen on Dec. 21.

Darren Huff was reported seen with Angela Huff around 11:30 a.m. that day but has not been seen since.

Family members have posted flyers with his picture and a brief statement at several area locations.

The flyer asks that anyone who has information about Huff or is whereabouts is asked to call the Greencastle City Police Department at 653-2925 or 653-5115, Ext. 0.

There is a reward for getting Huff home safely, the flyer notes.

Persons with information may call Naomi Featherston at 720-9796 or Mike Lady at 720-6805.

  • They need to give a description of him to the news stations. This might help. It doesn't sound like the authorities are helping much.

An adult male disappears - exactly what do you expect the police to do? (While I am not a law enforcement cheerleader, I try to play it as fair as possible and will defend them when I must.)

Assuming there is no evidence or indication of a crime (as none was reported), and assuming that there is no medical condition that would warrant a Silver Alert (again, nothing reported) - why would the police be actively searching for this guy?

For all we know, this guy decided to just get away. He's over 18, and this is America. So yeah, he can do that.

Police are not babysitters. They enforce the law and investigate crimes.

This, so far, has not ticked either box.

Instead they mark him as "missing" so that if an unidentified body turns up somewhere it can be compared to all the "missing persons" for possible identification.

For the family's sake I hope all turns out well.
