Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, Mercelina K. Ketchum, 19, Rockville, was eastbound on U.S. 36 just east of Bainbridge in a 2004 Jeep Liberty.

Ketchum told Deputy Nate Trissel she hydroplaned and then lost control of her vehicle, hitting a guardrail and spinning around.

A witness told Trissel he was traveling westbound and saw Ketchum’s vehicle hit the guardrail and then spin 180 degrees, coming to a stop facing westbound in the westbound lane.

Ketchum avoided injury and her vehicle was not towed.

Trissel estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 6:35 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, James H. Young, 72, Greencastle, was westbound on State Road 240 at the County Road 775 East intersection in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix. Maurice C. Buis, 64, Stilesville, was eastbound in a 2001 Ford Ranger.

A witness who was following told Deputy Randy Patrick that Young’s car appeared to cross the center line and hit the front driver side portion of Buis’ pickup truck.

Young’s vehicle had damage to the front driver side tire area. Meanwhile, damage to Buis’ vehicle ran from the front driver side tire area down the driver side to the rear tire area, including the front tire being completely removed from the vehicle.

Afterward, Buis was treated for a diabetic issue and signed a statement of release. Neither driver was injured.

Both vehicles were towed. Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.
