Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 8 p.m. on Saturday, Joseph R. Pilkin, 25, Greencastle, was delivering food for his work in a 2005 Ford F-150.

Pilkin told Deputy Jeffery Freeman he pulled into the wrong driveway at 4684 S. U.S. 231. He then turned around in the driveway, going into the grass and running over a gas man sticking 10-12 inches out of the ground.

The gas main, owned by Vectren, broke and began leaking gas. The leak was later fixed.

The impact caused minor damage to the fender well of the truck.

Freeman estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, Taylor B. Strange, 30, Fillmore, was southbound on County Road 300 East south of County Road 500 North in a 2005 Dodge Ram.

The truck left the road and entered the ditch, where it struck a large power pole, breaking it in half from the impact and causing power outages in the area.

Strange left the scene without notifying law enforcement of the crash. Parke County REMC contacted law enforcement when the vehicle was discovered.

Strange was back on the scene when police arrived.

Strange told Deputy Freeman she felt something break in the front end, causing the vehicle to drive off the roadway. However, Freeman found no evidence of anything broken or displaced in the drive train.

The truck was towed. Freeman estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.
