Anyone interested in Putnam County history or who would like to know about the agriculture industry in the county is invited to the Putnam County Fairgrounds community Building at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23.

Putnam County Historian Larry Tippin will be the guest speaker at the joint annual dinner for Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District and Purdue Extension Putnam County.

Tippin has served as the Putnam County Historian since 2008. His interest in history grew out of extensive research of his family roots and restoration of pioneer cemeteries.

Tippin has been a featured speaker at many events throughout the county and serves as a member of the board of directors of the local Heritage Preservation Society, Putnam County Museum and the Friends of the Roachdale Library.

Most recently, he authored a book about the short life of Pearl Bryan, which was published in October 2018.

Tippin will be discussing the history of Putnam County and how agriculture has impacted the county.

In addition to hearing from Tippin, participants will learn about the recent successes of the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District and Purdue Extension. The event will also honor the River Friendly Farmer, Woodland Owner of the Year and the Friend of the Extension.

A new supervisor to the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District Board and new Purdue Extension Board members will be elected at the joint dinner.

The Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District and Purdue Extension Putnam County decided to team up to let stakeholders from both organizations celebrate their successes and awards during this year’s joint annual dinner.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. event at the Community Building.

This event is open to the public and tickets are $5. Ticket sales are requested by Jan. 15 at either the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District (653-5716 ext. 3) or at the Purdue Extension Putnam County Office (653-8411).
