Thursday, January 9, 2020

The Western Indiana Conference will start to see some finalization tonight as divisional play nears its conclusion in preparation for the final round of crossover games later this month.

Here is a summary of how the races look:

Girls’ standings

In the East Division, second-place Brown County has two huge home games this weekend.

Third-place Edgewood travels to Nashville tonight, while undefeated division leader Indian Creek makes the same trip on Saturday night.

Cloverdale can escape fifth place by beating Owen Valley tonight.

Each team only plays four divisional games with the departure of Cascade.

South Putnam travels to Sullivan tonight to play for the West Division title. The winner could only be tied by the loser, and the winner would hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Crossover games are on Jan. 24 at site of the East Division school.

Boys’ standings

In the East Division, first-place Indian Creek only needs to defeat last-place Brown County tonight to win the division title.

Cloverdale could clinch second place with a win over third-place Owen Valley in their final divisional game of the year.

Sullivan appears to be in good standing in the West Division, standing undefeated at 3-0 and only needing wins over fifth-place South Putnam and sixth-place West Vigo to reach the conference finals.

Greencastle could break a second-place tie with Northview with a victory tonight.

Crossover games will be played at the West Division school on Jan. 31.
