BAINBRIDGE — The North Putnam swim teams split with North Montgomery Thursday night.

The Cougar boys topped the Chargers 112-54, while the Cougar girls lost 109-63.

“The Cougars had a great night in the water,” coach Julie Ann Elmore said. “I wasn’t sure what to expect at our first meet back in the water after a grueling winter break practice schedule.

“In addition to some yardage over break we tried to fine tune some details and it showed on Thursday night,” she continued. “I couldn’t have been more pleased with the group and how they swam. We had 24 PRs. Some from our new swimmers and some from a few of our veterans, even with many swimming off races.”

Senior Kyle Young led the Cougar attack with wins in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke. Other winners for the boys included junior Jacob Farrington (200 free), senior Matthew Trotter (200 IM), sophomore Seth Thompson (100 backstroke) and Justin Thomas (50 freestyle).

“Seth Thompson continues to impress me with the time drops he’s consistently putting on the board in his backstroke race,” Elmore said.

Junior Grace Elmore picked up a win for the Cougar girls in the 100 freestyle.

The winning swimmers weren’t the only ones on Elmore’s mind after the meet, as she praised Alaina Chew for a huge time drop in just her second 500 freestyle race, as well as new swimmers Katie Fry, Grace Kinkead and Handley Everman for personal bests in the 50 free. Everman also dropped her 100 backstroke time.

“Carter Thomas also shows continual drops in the 100 fly, which is great to see as we will graduate our fastest fly swimmer, Kyle Young, this spring,” Elmore said. “I’m also excited about some of our underclassman finishing 1-2-3 in the 50 free — Justin Thomas, Gunner Burress and Jacob Farrington, respectively.

Cougars are back in the water Monday night for senior night at home vs. Cascade.
