County Jail

Two people were booked in the Putnam County Jail on Monday.

• At 11:04 p.m. William S. Pierce, 43, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for nonsupport of a dependent child.

• At 4:42 p.m. Colton L. Williams, 23, Bainbridge, was booked in for unlawful possession of a syringe.

City Police

One recent summons was issued by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 9:05 p.m. Monday, Kevin Anderson, 21, Greencastle, was issued a summons into court by Sgt. Eric Vaughan on a possession of marijuana charge.

The summons was issued to Anderson following a traffic stop on Bloomington Street.

Indiana State Police

State troopers from the Putnamville Post made one recent arrest in Putnam County.

•On Monday evening, Trooper Austin Fowler initiated a traffic stop on eastbound Interstate 70 at the 36-mile marker.

During the stop, Fowler detected the oder of burnt marijuana and observed signs of impairment from the driver, 29-year-old Denis Makic of Fort Wayne.

Makic refused to submit to a certified chemical test.

At 11:06 p.m., he was booked in the Putnam County Jail for possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and driving while intoxicated-refusal.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 5:43 a.m. on Tuesday, Mark D. Newnum, 41, Rockville, was northbound on U.S. 231 south of County Road 1000 North in a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado.

Newnum told Deputy Brian Helmer that seven deer jumped into his path and he was unable to avoid colliding with one of them. The truck sustained heavy damage from the impact but Newnum was not injured.

Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 8:27 p.m. on Saturday, Victor A. Lowman, 64, Greencastle, was attempting to pull into a parking spot at Putnam County Hospital in a 2007 Ford Escape. As he did so, he struck an unoccupied Audi SQ5 owned by Edwin M. Eppler, Ketchikan, Alaska.

Deputy Anthony Brown estimated damage at less than $1,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to eight recent dispatches:

• At 4:36 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the Walmart parking lot. Units arrived at the scene at 4:40 to find a car had hit a pole. GFD assisted with patient care, and went back into service at 4:59 p.m.

• At 6:53 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a distress call at Arby’s. Units arrived at 6:56 p.m. to find that an individual had gotten their hand stuck inside a car door. The door was cut and the person’s hand was extricated. GFD went back into service at 7:32 p.m.

• At 3:03 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:09 and determined the alarm was due to body spray. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 3:16 a.m.

• At 12:08 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Alpha Tau Omega for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:09 but could not determine the cause of the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD left at 12:17 a.m.

• At 2:21 p.m. on Sunday, GFD received a call for a supposed illegal burn on Columbia Street. Units found the fire at 2:25 and determined it was a controlled burn and considered outside of the city limits. GFD went back into service at 2:31 p.m.

• At 2:55 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Phi Kappa Psi for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:59 and determined the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 3:05 p.m.

• At 6:40 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 420 Anderson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:41 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 6:46 a.m.

• At 5:08 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD received a call for smoke in the vicinity of Shadowlawn Avenue and Jackson Street. Firefighters arrived in the area at 5:15 to find that smoke was coming from wood stoves. GFD went back into service at 5:41 a.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed 12 medical assists and had two disregards.
