Larry Wayne Shinn

Larry Wayne Shinn, 51, Brownsburg, formerly of Greencastle, died unexpectedly on Jan. 5, 2020, in Pittsburg, Okla.

Larry is survived by his mother, Wilma Shinn. He is preceded in death by his father, Morris Shinn, and his grandmother, Wilma Cox.

Larry was born on July 19, 1968, in Greencastle to Wilma (Cox) Shinn and Morris Shinn. He graduated from Greencastle High School in 1986. He graduated from Wyoming University with a degree in writing. He wrote several published poems.

Larry started Students Against Drunk Driving at Greencastle High School in 1984 and met with Gov. Robert Orr and Stephen Goldsmith, Marion County Prosecutor. He was very interested in combating drunk driving and was chosen on the basis of his leadership ability.

He was a member of Math League, Quill and Scroll, journalism, Drama Club, SADD, French Club, marching and jazz band, Campus Life, Ink Pot staff, “Minaret” staff, swim team and thespians.

Growing up, Larry was a Boy Scout and a little league ball player. He was an excellent bowler and was on Varsity Lanes’ junior league until completing high school and going off to college. He played guitar and took lessons for many years. He liked to relax with a good book, go bike riding, hiking, etc. He loved animals and the great outdoors.

Larry was a member of First Baptist Church of Greencastle and was baptized on Aug. 7, 1977.

Larry owned several bicycle shops, the last one being Covered Bridge Cyclery in the JC Penney building in Greencastle. He then moved to Brownsburg.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Greencastle, 404 Judson Drive, with Pastor Paul Wiseheart officiating.

Visitation will be from 10-11:15 a.m., with a short memorial service at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Larry’s life.
