Hobert ‘Hobie’ Ben Knowling

Hobert “Hobie” Ben Knowling, 75 of Ladoga, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020 at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville.

He was born on April 6, 1944 in Detroit, Mich., to the late Theodore and Vera (Hancock) Knowling.

Hobie joined the United States Army where he graduated from military high school in Germany. He then proudly served our country for many years, and remained active in the Army Reserves for more than 20 years.

After returning home from the Army he enjoyed farming, working at the fertilizer plant in Roachdale, doing masonry work and then working at Raybestos until retirement.

Among his favorite hobbies were guns, American history, John Deere tractors, reading, western movies and spending time with his family.

Hobie was member of the Roachdale VFW and the NRA.

He is survived by his five siblings, Carolyn (Robert) Hedrick, Tommy Knowling, Mary Ann (Terry) McClure, Bonnie (John) Storm and Toby (Catherine) Knowling, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, sister-in-law Judy (Perkins) Knowling, and special friends, Ted and Karen Craig.

Hobie was preceded in death by, his parents, brother Theodore Knowling, sister Cinda Lou and two nephews, Shawn Storm, and Derick Knowling.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18,at Servies & Morgan Funeral Home, 102 E. Washington St., Roachdale,. Burial will follow in Roachdale Cemetery.

Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Friday, Jan. 17 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
