Senior Education Ministries will present the first installment of the Dine with a Doc program for 2020 on Monday, Feb. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon at Putnam County Hospital.

Dine with a Doc is a free community-based speaking series that welcomes the local senior public to hear about an educational topic while enjoying a complimentary lunch.

The speakers for this month’s presentation will include members of the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation department at Putnam County Hospital.

They will talk about cardiac rehabilition, a supervised program for people who have had a heart attack, heart failure, heart valve surgery, heart transplants, coronary artery bypass grafting or percutaneous coronary intervention (including stents and angioplasty).

Cardiac rehabilitation involves adopting and encouraging lifestyle changes to address risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The hospital program includes exercise training, education on heart-healthy living and counseling to help reduce stress and be active.

The complimentary lunch will be provided courtesy of Mill Pond Health Campus.

Various health care providers will be present to share information about their services and provide door prizes for participants to win. Hickory Creek at Sunset will also offer complimentary blood pressure screening.

The Dine with a Doc program is designed for seniors to connect with their peers, to educate with the goal of improving quality of life and to provide resources to make informed health care choices.
