South Putnam board approves check cancellations

Thursday, February 13, 2020

As the wet-snow system came into Putnam County, the South Putnam School Board made quick work of its short agenda Wednesday evening.

Superintendent Bruce Bernhardt brought a request to cancel 13 outstanding checks. These are checks which have not been cashed in two or more years, with the money going back to the corporation. The board approved the request.

In other business, the board approved regular items including claims and the minutes for last month’s finance meeting and other sessions, as well as overnight trips and facility usage.

The board also recognized South Putnam’s Students of the Month. They were Madeline Couch from Fillmore Elementary; Kennadie Thompson from Central Elementary; Noah Couch from South Putnam Middle School; and Layla Downing from South Putnam High School.

Noah Couch was unable to attend the meeting.

The board also approved the following personnel report:

• Resignation: Tamara Shurig, part-time MS/HS food service;

• Retirements: Mitchell Schoolcraft, bus driver; Rita Bain, Central/Fillmore Elementary nurse; and Donald Reitzel, mechanic;

• Termination: Carlos Hawkins, MS/HS custodian;

• Maternity leave: Cara Cash, MS/HS special education teacher;

• New hires:

- Classifieds: Michelle Jordan, MS/HS custodian; and Jack McCollister, part-time MS/HS custodian

- ECA: Andy Waters, middle school wrestling coach.

The next regular meeting of the South Putnam School Board is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. in the South Putnam MS/HS Learning Center.
