Death confirmed in shooting on S.R. 340 in Clay County

BRAZIL — Indiana State Police are investigating a Sunday shooting on State Road 340 west of Brazil, that claimed the life of a Brazil resident.

At approximately 9 p.m., the Clay County Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting shots fired at 2055 State Road 340.

The Brazil City Police Department and Clay County Sheriff’s Department, along with first responders, immediately responded to the residence and upon their arrival found an individual located inside the residence with gunshot wounds. The individual had already succumbed to injuries.

An autopsy was performed on the deceased subject Monday at 1 p.m. at Regional Hospital, Terre Haute.

The investigation is being conducted by Indiana State Police Detectives Jason Schoffstall, Don Curtis, and Mike Featherling, with the assistance of Sgt. Sam Stearley, and Crime Scene Technician Brandon Mullen of the Putnamville State Police Post.

Assisting agencies include Susie’s Place, Brazil Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff’s Department.

Once the investigation is complete, a copy of the report will be forwarded to the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
