Mary Helen (Slinker) Purvis

Mary Helen (Slinker) Purvis, 82, previously of Roachdale, went to her Heavenly home on March 3, 2020 at Brownsburg Meadows Assisted Living.

Mary was born to the late Harry and Hallie (Lewis) Slinker on Aug. 12, 1937 in Merry Oaks, Ky.

On June 23, 1957 in Richmond, she married the love of her life, Dallas Ray Purvis. They shared 55 years of happy marriage together before he preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 2012.

Mary and her late husband worked together owning and operating Purvis Market in Indianapolis, Roachdale, Crawfordsville and Coatesville.

Mary was a longtime member of Roachdale Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She was a devoted wife, mother and much-loved grandmother.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra (David) Webb of Ladoga and Tamara (Randall) Fenwick of Jamestown; three grandchildren, Andrew Webb, Amy Gooderum and Nicholas Gooderum, three sisters-in-law, Shirley Slinker, Mary McCurdy and Joan Michaels; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Elmer Slinker, Harry Slinker Jr. and Kenneth Slinker; sisters, Gladys Smith and Margaret Doren; and grandson, Daniel Gooderum.

Her funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 9 at Roachdale Baptist Church, 10 N. Lonoke St, Roachdale, IN 46172 with Pastor Shannon Ivers officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband in Roachdale Cemetery.

Friends may come and visit with the family on Sunday, March 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Roachdale Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
