County Jail

Eleven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 3:19 a.m. Shawn M. Legg, 49, Brazil, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

Sunday

• At 9:35 p.m. Eric R. Hunter, 30, Greencastle, was taken into custody for domestic battery and strangulation.

• At 12:44 p.m. Austin D. Clodfelter, 19, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for battery on a person less than 14 years old.

• At 12:25 a.m. Donald N. Monroe III, 28, Cloverdale, was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

Saturday

• At 10:40 p.m. Garry G. Jones, 62, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

• At 12:37 p.m. Anthony W. Lee, 48, Bainbridge, was housed at the jail for driving with a suspended license.

• At 3:49 a.m. Thomas E. Schultheis, 53, Cloverdale, was booked in for intimidation and invasion of privacy.

• At 2:31 a.m. John R. Raffo, 20, Laguna Beach, Calif., was lodged at the jail for disorderly conduct and being a minor in consumption of alcohol.

Friday

• At 9:48 p.m. Kara N. Steadman, 33, Oklahoma City, Okla., was housed at the jail for residential entry, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

• At 8:32 p.m. Kyle K. McCabe, 43, Spencer, was booked in for possession of cocaine and driving while intoxicated with a controlled substance.

• At 7:30 p.m. Timothy R. Rivers, 54, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for driving with a suspended license.

City Police

Greencastle City Police officers investigated two recent theft attempts at the Walmart store.

• At 5:28 p.m. Saturday, James A. Ferguson, 32, Indianapolis, was arrested by Officer Brad Hiatt for theft.

Ferguson allegedly took ear buds, a phone charger and name badges, all valued at approximately $60. He was lodged in the Putnam County Jail .

Authorities said Ferguson ripped the packaging open and concealed the items in his jacket pocket. He then reportedly discarded the packaging in the parking lot prior to his arrest.

• At 11:07 p.m. Friday, Stephanie M. Dickey, 31, Greencastle, was arrested by Capt. Charles Inman for theft.

Dickey reportedly concealed some items in the waistband of her pants, and then did not scan other items as she used the U-scan for $798 worth of merchandise. Police said $242 worth of merchandise went unscanned.

Dickey, who was lodged in the Putnam County Jail, allegedly concealed items in towels and pillowcases as she scanned those items.

Items taken included Chapstick, toothbrushes, sheets, movies, underwear, hair ties, fake fingernails and cosmetics.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 1:21 a.m. on Sunday, Jeffery A. Kiger, 38, Oklahoma City, Okla., was westbound on U.S. 36, approaching County Road 775 West, in a 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer when a deer ran into the front driver’s side area of the car.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000. The vehicle was towed.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four recent dispatches:

• At 4:07 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Gore House for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:08 and determined the alarm was due to a candle burning. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 4:11 a.m.

• At 12:11 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:16 and determined the alarm was due to an air freshener. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 12:23 p.m.

• At 12:22 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched again to Humbert Hall for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:27 and determined the alarm was due to burnt popcorn. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 12:36 a.m.

• At 4:16 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to an elevator entrapment at Opportunity Housing. Units arrived at the property at 4:23 and freed the individual from the elevator. GFD went back into service at 4:38 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed two medical assists and had one disregard during this time.
