Beech Grove UMC celebration canceled

UPDATE: The Beech Grove United Methodist Church celebration set for March 29 has been canceled in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Organizers plan to reschedule the event.

Beech Grove United Methodist Church will celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the reopening of the church.

The congregation will mark the occasion on Sunday, March 29 beginning at 10:30 a.m. A pitch-in dinner will follow the service.

Beech Grove UMC was closed for six years prior to a petition to reopen the church which circulated in 1957.

Hila Brattain, Mary Shonkwiler (both deceased) and Helen Knauer were the three ladies who persevered to reopen the church.

Beech Grove UMC is located at 8825 CR 350 North, Greencastle. It is near the Putnam-Parke county line, three miles south of U.S. 36.
