The utility pole fell and struck the building, causing damage to the roof and guttering, Wilson reported.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 7:50 p.m. on Monday, Jesse M. Hutcheson-Stanley, 31, Coatesville, was northbound on County Road 750 East north of Rangeline Road in a 2001 Ford Escape.

Hutcheson-Stanley told Deputy Daniel Birt he was texting and dropped off the edge of the road and was unable to correct due to a lack of shoulder. The vehicle destroyed a mailbox and then traveled through a fence next to Deer Creek, ultimately coming to rest under the bridge.

Hutcheson-Stanley was out of the car upon Birt’s arrival, saying he did not need medical attention.

The driver said he did not have insurance and was cited for driving without financial responsibility.

The vehicle was towed. Birt estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 6:46 p.m. on Monday, Jacob W. Roberts, 21, Freedom, was southbound on County Road 750 East in a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta when a dog ran into the roadway and he could not avoid the animal.

Roberts stopped to notify the owner of the dog of the accident. He then assumed there was minimal damage to his vehicle and continued on.

However, within a half mile, the vehicle began making strange noises so he stopped and notified authorities of the accident.

The vehicle was towed. Birt estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

The dog was back inside the owner’s house when Birt spoke with her and he could not determine its condition.
