County Jail

Three people were booked in the Putnam County Jail on Thursday.

• At 2:17 p.m. Anthony Michael Jones, 24, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for unauthorized absence from home detention.

• At 2:12 p.m. Erick D. Williams, 50, Clinton, was booked in from theft and criminal mischief.

• At 9:22 a.m. Dylan M. Earley, 23, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for driving without ever receiving a license.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 12:15 a.m. on Thursday, Sydney C. Doan, 17, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 in the Brick Chapel area in a 2012 Subaru Impreza when she hit a deer.

Deputy Nathan Trissel estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 9:04 p.m. on Wednesday, Bryson T. Stamper, 18, Reelsville, was eastbound on Rangeline Road where it turns into County Road 225 East in a 2012 Chrysler 200.

Stamper told Deputy Robert Soilleux he was going too fast to make the turn in the road, running off the road and hitting a telephone pole.

The vehicle suffered heavy front-end damage and could not be driven from the scene.

Stamper complained of chest pain and was taken from the scene by medics.

Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 3:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Katie R. VanMeter, 32, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 300 West in a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox.

VanMeter told Deputy Tanner Brown she was smoking and flicked the burnt end of her cigarette out her window, but the burnt piece came back in and landed on the seat between her legs. She said she saw some smoke and put out the burnt piece.

However, in doing so, she drove her vehicle into the ditch on the opposite side of the road and came out.

The vehicle was driven from the scene. Deputy Tanner Brown estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 11 recent dispatches:

• At 1:46 p.m. last Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 106 S. Spring St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:47 and determined the alarm was due to steam. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 2 p.m.

• At 3:56 p.m. last Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Druley House for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:57 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 4:02 p.m.

• At 9:01 p.m. last Wednesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries located at 124 N. CR 225 East. Units arrived on the scene at 9:10 and assisted with securing the scene. GFD went back into service at 9:31 p.m.

• At 4:10 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries located at the intersection of Percy Julian Drive and Indianapolis Road. Units arrived on the scene at 4:13 and assisted with handling hazards. GFD went back into service at 4:17 p.m.

• At 8:09 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 412 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:10 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 8:13 p.m.

• At 11:26 a.m. on Saturday, GFD received a call from Vectren for a gas leak at 1016 S. Zinc Mill Rd. Units arrived at 11:31 and secured the residence until Vectren arrived. GFD went back into service at 11:40 a.m.

• At 11:50 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident without injuries located at 1750 Indianapolis Rd. Units arrived on the scene at 11:55 and assisted with minor property damage. GFD went back into service at 12 p.m.

• At 11:46 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 405 S. Jackson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:47 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 11:53 a.m.

• At 2:17 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 465 E. Ridgeland Rd. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:22 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 2:43 p.m.

• At 10:46 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Sherwood Christian Church for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:50 and determined the alarm was due to a faulty pull station. GFD went back into service at 11:02 p.m.

• At 12:34 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched again to Sherwood Christian Church for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:39 and determined the alarm was due to another malfunction. GFD was advised that the faulty pull station was being replaced. GFD left at 12:40 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed 13 and had two disregards.
