Linda K. (Cox) Nelson Murphy, 80, of New Market, passed away surrounded by her loving family on May 28, 2020.

She was born on June 27, 1939 in Marion to the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Weliever) Cox.

Linda graduated from Darlington High School with the class of 1957.

She married Robert “Bob” Nelson on Jan. 28, 1961, and he preceded her in death after 56 years of marriage in August of 2017. She then married Henry “Hank” Murphy Jr. on Aug. 12, 2018, and he survives.

She worked as food services director for North Putnam for 17 years, and then was the food services director for Greencastle for 25 years until retiring.

During her career, she was the Town of Russellville trustee, and also president of Indiana School Nutrition for the State of Indiana for four years. She worked as a head cook for 4-H camp at Shakamak State Park for 25 years, along with being a Cub Scout leader who was famous and known locally for her cinnamon rolls.

She never knew a stranger, and enjoyed traveling and taking trips with the Prime Timers group. Her family and grandchildren were her greatest pleasure, and kids’ nutrition was her heart and soul. She lived her life well in service to others and will be missed by many.

Linda is survived by her husband Henry “Hank” Murphy Jr. of New Market; children Debra (Bill Ireland) Nelson of Crawfordsville, Sheri (Terry) Franklin of Roachdale, Daniel Nelson of Williamsport (Nicole Singer of Rockville) and David (Jennifer) Nelson of Russellville; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings Marilyn High of Crawfordsville and Dale Cox (Caralee) of Lafayette; special nephew Brad (Beth) High of Crawfordsville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband and stepson Gary Nelson.

Funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Monday, June 1 at the Russellville Community Center, 300 N. Harrison St., Russellville, IN 46175. She will be laid to rest beside her first husband in Hebron Cemetery at a later date.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2 until 5 p.m. on Monday at the Community Center. Social distancing and a limited number in attendance are expected to be followed.

Memorials in Linda’s memory may be made to the Russellville Vol. Fire Department, Russellville Community Church Food Pantry and the Russellville Community Center.
