Vesta Irene York

Vesta Irene York, 98, of formerly of Greencastle, passed away Monday, June 8, 2020, at Greenfield Health Care Center.

Vesta was born in Greencastle on Dec. 14, 1921, the daughter of Willie and Martha Kendall.

She was a graduate of Greencastle High School.

Mrs. York worked in manufacturing with Western Electric Telephone Co. She also worked at the Jewish Community Center in Indianapolis.

Survivors include her son, Terry York, (wife Sherri); a daughter-in-law, Nancy Lawrence; five grandchildren, Larry Lawrence Jr., Michelle Daniels, Jason Lawrence, Sarah York, Ethan York and Katherine (Will) Owen; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Joe Lawrence, and her husband, Duward York; a son, Larry Lawrence Sr.; three sisters, Maxine Lydick, Betty Lou Cain and Pauline Tucker; and two brothers, Wilbur Kendall and infant brother Willis Kendall.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 16 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle. Burial will follow in Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to time of service on Tuesday.
