County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail on Monday.

• At 9:37 p.m. Hunter D. Burchett, 20, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for possession of marijuana.

• At 7:47 p.m. Rita K. Aguilar, 73, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for check deception.

• At 7:09 p.m. Trisha A. Wood, 30, Spencer, was taken into custody on a court order.

• At 6:52 p.m. Brandon C. Dunagan, 36, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for theft.

• At 9:54 a.m. Alisha M. Kimes, 42, Fillmore, was booked in for battery and criminal mischief.

City Police

Two recent theft cases were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 6:39 p.m. Tuesday, Lyndsey Campbell, 26, Bloomington, was arrested by Capt. Charles Inman at the Walmart store on Indianapolis Road for theft and criminal trespass.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Campbell allegedly took clothing and cough drops valued at $22.26 by covering the items in her cart with a handbag and backpack.

• At 8:07 p.m. Monday, Kirsten Phillips, 29 Cloverdale, was arrested for theft by Capt. Inman at the Greencastle Walmart store.

Concealing some items in clothing and removing other items from their packaging, Phillips allegedly took $197.13 worth of merchandise. She was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Meanwhile, Stacey Cox, 50, Greencastle, was released on her own recognizance after reportedly not scanning a bottle of mustard and putting earrings in her handbag.

Items Phillips reportedly took include clothing, earrings, a small mirror, toiletries, vitamins, headbands and an electric toothbrush.

City officers made two additional arrests recently.

• At 10:05 a.m. Tuesday, Kaiglynn Harvey, 19, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Brad Hiatt.

Taken into custody at an Elm Street address for invasion of privacy, Harvey was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

• At 9:06 p.m. Monday, Richard Waggoner, 35, Bainbridge, was arrested by Officer Alec Pettit.

Taken into custody for intimidation at the College Inn on Bloomington Street, Waggoner was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 5:45 a.m. on Thursday, Chad A. Mize, 30, Clinton, was westbound on U.S. 36 in a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu when he hit a deer.

Deputy Josh Deal estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 5:38 a.m. on Monday, June 1, Mandy J. Monnett, 37, Cloverdale, was westbound in the 1600 block of County Road 300 South in a 2016 GMC Acadia when she lost the roadway on the passenger side, running into a deep ditch.

Deputy Randy Patrick reported that there was airbag deployment and, for Monnett’s safety, it was decided she should stay in the vehicle until she could be seen by Putnam County EMS. Once Monnett was out of the vehicle, EMS took her to Putnam County Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The vehicle was towed. Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four recent dispatches:

• At 1:11 p.m. last Friday, GFD received a call for an illegal burn at 7 S. Central St. Firefighters arrived at 1:16 to find that the homeowner was burning trash and brush. GFD told the homeowner this was illegal, and the fire was put out. GFD went back into service at 1:30 p.m.

• At 7:44 p.m. last Friday, GFD was dispatched to Roy O. West Library at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:47 and determined that steam had activated a duct detector. The alarm could not be reset at the time. GFD went back into service at 8:04 p.m.

• At 6:09 a.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a vehicle fire located near the Putnam County Fairgrounds. Firefighters found a trash truck with its cab fully involved at 6:18 and put the fire out. GFD went back into service at 7:19 p.m.

• At 6:44 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a mutual aid building fire located at 11361 S. Sugar Maple Ln. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 7:09 p.m. and assisted the Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department with extinguishment, salvage and overhaul. GFD went back into service at 9:34 p.m.

• At 3:22 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD received a call for a tree in the road located near 3533 E. CR 325 South. Units found the tree at 3:31 and cut up the tree to remove it from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 4:13 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed eight medical assists and had four disregards.
