A 53-year-old Putnam County man has died as a result of a motorcycle accident that occurred Friday morning.

A 6:45 a.m. accident on County Road 850 West near County Road 225 North, northwest of Greencastle in Madison Township, claimed the life of Darrald D. Crosby of rural Greencastle.

Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Scott Ducker said another motorist found Crosby lying in the middle of the gravel road next to his 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle about 6:45 a.m.

When he arrived on the scene, Ducker said Crosby was unconscious but breathing. He appeared to have sustained significant head trauma, the deputy reported.

Markings at the scene indicated that Crosby was traveling northbound on CR 850 West when he lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected off the vehicle.

The accident occurred about 1.5 miles north of the victim’s residence. Family members told authorities he had left for work at approximately 5 a.m.

Putnam County EMS provided first aid at the scene. Crosby was transported to an Indianapolis hospital, where he died of his injuries later that night, the Marion County Coroner’s Office reported.
