After taking a few months off, the Community Conversation program will return this week with a slightly different look.

For the rest of the year, these monthly conversations with elected and appointed government officials will take place over Zoom.

The first Zoom conversation is set for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8 and will feature Putnam County Public Library Director Matt McClelland and PCPL Board President Kayla Flegal.

Matt McClelland, who took over as PCPL director at the beginning of 2020, is from western Pennsylvania and recently relocated to Indiana with his wife Sarah. He has undergraduate degrees in English and education from Westminster College and earned a Masters of Library Science from Clarion University in 2006.

His previous work experience includes two years as a school librarian, one year as a county administrator and 11 years as a library director.

Kayla Flegal is a librarian at DePauw University and resides in Greencastle with her husband Chris and their daughter Rhea. Flegal has served on the PCPL Board for four years and was recently elected as the board president, following the tenure of Alan Zerkel.

After graduating from Greencastle High School, Flegal moved around the state of Indiana for her undergraduate and graduate programs, then relocated to Pennsylvania to work at the Dickinson College library. She returned to Greencastle in 2015 to assume her current position at DePauw. Her interests in libraries and communities extends into both her professional and personal life as a library patron, librarian, mother and advocate for equity of information access.

The Community Conversation Series is sponsored by the Greencastle League of Women Voters, the Putnam County Public Library and the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce. The goal of this continuing program is to provide the community an opportunity to hear from and speak to their elected and appointed government officials.
