The Greencastle McDonald’s was temporarily shut down Thursday after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

McDonald’s spokesperson Erica Jones told the Banner Graphic Thursday afternoon the fast-food restaurant was closed so a deep cleaning could be done inside.

Jones said the goal was for McDonald’s to be open Friday morning. She also stated that the Putnam County Health Department had been contacted.

Dairy Castle was also closed Thursday for an unrelated issue. Owner Rob Best told the Banner Graphic that staff were having technical difficulties, and it was decided to close the ice cream shop for the rest of the day.

However, Best said they had been fixed, and that Dairy Castle would be open Friday.

  • I’m glad McDs acted quickly!

Meanwhile - countdown to our multiple manifesto authors input...

It should start getting very busy at the testing site as half the town probably eats at McDonalds.

GladysK, I am surprised that you and the rest of the mask brigade aren't calling for the place to be burned to the ground...just to be sure.

If only they wore masks... oh, wait McDonalds has required masks for 2 months or better. Nevermind.

  • Ah - DPR - you never fail to disappoint.

Edit - you never fail to be a disappointment.

GladysK - LOL. You really need to work on your material... but in rebuttal:

    * Some women are just hard to please, I guess. Maybe you have a medical condition...just sayin'.

    * 100% success rate?! Woo-hoo. Too bad you can't say the same.

    * I doubt I will ever be in a position where I would want to satisfy you.

Anyway - back to the reason we are here...

Gladys, where do you think things broke down?

After all, they required their people to wear masks and yet someone still got the 'rona.

Do you think its possible masks don't work?

Or would you prefer 24/7/365 mask wearing?

    Maybe mandatory mask checks?

    Constant surveillance to ensure compliance?

My answer is FREEDOM, GladysK (b/c its a virus and viruses spread)... what's yours?

  • So I'm going to chime in after just reading comments for so long. In regards to this situation, the few times I have visited the drive-thru, I've had an employee had me my food items and their face mask will not be on properly as in covering their NOSE!! The virus does not exist in our feet, or elbows it's in the NOSE. Why else would one get a deep nasal swab (yes, I've had one and it was negative) when tested? So maybe from now on, all employees at McDonald's will ensure their facial mask is on properly and not hanging below their nose.....

  • THANK YOU, May04. Exactly! There is a certain young man who works the payment window who always had his mask on his mouth and not his nose. I am sure he isn’t the only one, either. We have quit going for that reason.

  • Hilarious - DPR - that you assume I’m a woman.

    I certainly don’t think you’re a pirate.

Chauvinist Pig - yes. Pirate - no.

  • Them wearing masks only protects us from them. It does not protect the employees from customers who are not wearing masks

  • I only hope the health department does a COMPLETE inspection !!

  • You are correct Kacye.jean.kean. The employees, masks or not, also don't LIVE at McDonalds and could have picked up the virus from family, friends, or anyone else too selfish to wear a mask.

GladysK - If you are not a woman, you have an unfortunate name. Oink oink, you scurvy bilge rat! ;)

Kayce.jean.kean - Please explain the science behind what you just said...it sounds like you are saying masks are one-way only?

Unbiased - Yes, they do not live at McDonalds. And they could've picked it up anywhere. It is a virus. Viruses spread. Including THRU masks.

By the way, there are many reasons why people don't wear masks.

Dpr, I will agree with you there are many reasons people don't wear masks. I've listed the ones that immediately come to mind.

Selfish, ignorant, misguided freedom fighters, selfish, ignorant, a truly legit medical based reason, selfish, ignorant, desperation to feel smarter than science, selfish, ignorant.

  • Masks do not do anything to prevent the spread of the virus do your research, also the person taking the payments is spreading germs from one customer to another, it's inevitable that the virus was going to show up sooner or later.

-- Posted by obeone on Fri, Aug 14, 2020, at 12:42 AM
  • Can anyone show me scientific proof that masks work? Anyone show me 100% proof how the virus spreads? All I've seen from our politicians is "opinions". This is "how we think" the virus is spreading.

    -- Posted by tjarboe50 on Fri, Aug 14, 2020, at 2:15 AM
  • I will ask a question totally away from the mask. I would like to know if they will bring in a completely new crew? The workers had to have contact with one another in their close working quarters. I was understanding that if you were in contact then you must isolate yourself for 10-14 days. I have even seen recently tat certain cities are requiring isolation of 14 days if you simplify have visited certain states. They say the "test" takes a few days for results so I ask how many other McDonald's employees could possibility have Covid-19. How could our Health Dept. clear the other workers?

RSOTS - LOL. I almost - almost! - pity you... it must be lonely up in your tall tower. But perhaps GladysK and Queen53 stop by for a visit now and again to take part in the fun of showering disdain down on the little people.

Happening today - You ask intriguing questions. Here is your answer. Per a source inside - management didnt even tell their employees unless they were supposedly in direct contact with the infected person. My source says that they read about it on the BG website. So management decided who was in direct contact in the last few days, told them not to come to work, but everybody else was okay to return.

Strangely enough, they didn't seem too bothered by wondering when this person got it, whether this person was spreading it around BEFORE they tested positive, or the possible contamination of workspace BEFORE yesterdays deep cleaning.

In other words; like the masks this is a whole lot of window dressing to make people think something is being done.

The truth is they should shut the business down for 2 weeks which is what they would do if they really thought coronavirus was the plague they pretend it to be.

  • I know someone that worked at that mcdonalds that just transfer to terre haute mcdonalds-hope they think about that.

    -- Posted by oldschool68 on Fri, Aug 14, 2020, at 11:25 AM
  • Happening today...I’m wondering the same thing. Everyone in contact with that employee should not return to work until quarantined or a negative test result.

  • Hey keyboard warriors...

Instead of “I heard This” “I heard that”

Get out from behind your keyboards, get out of the basement and engage the actual owner.

I did- I requested Paul Jedele, and he came outside to see me.

We discussed the issue, he explained their mitigation efforts.

    He was upfront and honest.

I felt comfortable with their decision making processes.

He could not have been more willing to talk and listen!

    Try it out.

I gladly went thru the drive thru.

We will never be 100% safe, but I’m glad to make the effort to protect others- even DPR.

    Talk to people - engage.

    No fear, just be smart.

  • Some of you either do not have jobs, or are in management (and not really needed), because you have WAY TOO MUCH TIME on your hands.

-- Posted by small town fan on Fri, Aug 14, 2020, at 2:05 PM
  • I am glad to hear the "Gladys" took the time to talk with the owner/manager of McD. That makes a lot more sense then sitting on your keyboard and trashing people and questioning motives. I, too, trust the Jedele family to make the correct and appropriate decisions. After all, they live and work here, and it is in their best interests to make their establishment safe for their workers and customers.

GladysK, Small town fan, gustave&zelma -

Perhaps the three of you should take some reading comprehension classes...

No one on here "trashed" anyone, and my information isn't even as remote as 4th person.

I have an INSIDE SOURCE... a friend that is intimately involved with someone there. This person is not a disgruntled employee by any means, but they see things and hear things and between the three of us things are discussed as a matter of business operations perspectives. This isn't done as a gossip session - names are never mentioned, only practices - but as a way to look for ways to improve business, management styles, etc. b/c two of us are in management in our own fields.

(And people that disparage management are the ones that can never attain management levels... sour grapes.)

Asking the owners for a statement is going to get you an owners statement. They aren't going to cut their own throat.

I have met the Jedeles a few times, though they would not have thought twice about it. They are nice people. I am not saying anything against them.

But they are the OWNERS. They don't manage the place. They expect their managers to manage. Unfortunately what you expect and what you get are sometimes far afield.

They may not (and hopefully not) know everything that goes on at this store. After all, they have 4 or 5 stores that they must run.

As others besides myself have pointed out - it is flaws in the management process such as improper mask wearing, inadequate contact tracing, and the like that are (or should be) cause for concern IF you are going to treat the coronavirus like the plague (such as some of you do).

And if you aren't going to be concerned...get off my back about not wearing a mask.

As for me? I think I might go get me a chocolate shake and some french fries.

  • Pretty sad to see so many things said here that would never be said face to face. Perhaps some of us could take a moment and check our behavior.

GladysK - LOL. Is this you planting your flag, that you would re-post your prior post? It kinda looks like admitting defeat without having the grace to admit defeat.

By the way, did you hear about the fact that the WHO (an agency by which you mask-crusaders swear upon) recently said that ASYMPTOMATIC CARRIERS ARE HIGHLY UNLIKELY TO TRANSMIT THE VIRUS.

I feel fine, so by the WHO opinion - based on their own research & observations - even if I were a carrier (which I don't believe I am) I don't need to wear a mask.

In fact I am doing more harm to myself than possible harm to anyone else by wearing a mask.

And being a health care professional, surely you wouldn't want me to do unnecessarily damage my health...right?

Techphcy - I re-read everything on here and couldn't find anything that wouldn't be said face-to-face...by anyone.

If you aren't going to contribute to the conversation, please at least be more definitive in your targeting when hurling moral judgments.

-- Posted by dreadpirateroberts on Sat, Aug 15, 2020, at 8:29 AM
  • I can assure you I didn’t re-post it.

Not sure why, how, by whom it happened. Not my website.

Meanwhile- are you that starved for attention?

Really - I’m no longer going to directly address you or react to any of your behavior.

    You are exhausting.

So- please respond as you are likely with your likely long diatribe.

I really don’t care one iota you think on any issue any longer.

Fellow readers - try the same. If he doesn’t get the attention here, maybe he’ll go elsewhere and stop bothering the rest of us.

GladysK - It seems that the issue (of the double post) has been corrected...whatever the reason for it.

Now you sound like the kid who gets mad at one other kid on the playground - that you have a problem with - and while walking away tries to convince the other kids to leave as well...

It's too bad that me and the rest of the kids are still having fun.

Maybe your mom will console you while you tell her about the mean kids at the playground, and she can make everything rainbows for you again.

Feel free to come back to the playground when you feel up to it. :)
