County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 10:04 p.m. Kent J. Jackson, 45, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a warrant for battery resulting in bodily injury, residential entry and invasion of privacy.

• At 9:10 p.m. Dalton S. Bell, 27, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a warrant for domestic battery in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, disorderly conduct, strangulation and pointing a firearm.

• At 4:37 p.m. Jerry L. Dicks, 75, Bainbridge, was housed at the jail for criminal confinement, domestic battery and criminal recklessness.

Saturday

• At 9:13 p.m. Marcus K. Ashby, 64, Indianapolis, was booked in for public intoxication.

• At 8:15 p.m. Arthur L. Johnson, 56, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail on a warrant for possession of a synthetic drug or lookalike substance and for possession of a controlled substance.

• At 7:50 p.m. William C. Smith, 33, Spencer, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine.

• At 5:10 a.m. Dustin L. Clark, 34, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine and on out-of-county warrant.

Friday

• At 9:54 p.m. Derrick M. Griffith, 36, Salem, was booked in for driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a chemical test with a prior DWI conviction, resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 1:02 a.m. Friday, Jeremy Keenan, 31, Indianapolis, was arrested by Officer Luke Brown.

Taken into custody at Ottawa Park, Keenan was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine and illegal possession of a syringe.

• At 11:58 p.m. Thursday, Brockton Wells, 27, Greencastle, was arrested by Sgt. Eric Vaughan.

Stopped in the 1400 block of Bloomington Street, Wells was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Wells registered a blood-alcohol concentration of .136 percent.

Three citations were issued recently by city officers.

• At 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Roslyn Woodall, 63, Mooresville, was cited by Officer Alec Pettit.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Woodall was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

• At 10:40 p.m. Thursday, Joseph Payne, 40, Poland, was cited by Officer Brown.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Payne was cited for driving with a suspended license.

• At 6:03 p.m. Aug. 16, Jeremy Shepherd, 30, Plainfield, was cited by Officer Darrel Bunten.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Shepherd was cited for driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 12:02 p.m. on Sunday, Maeci Ray, 21, Danville, was southbound on County Road 100 East in a 2017 Chevrolet pickup. William Garvin, 61, Greencastle, was northbound on 100 East in a 2007 Nissan Titan.

Ray told Deputy Tanner Brown she noticed the other pickup driving in the center of the road, so she slowed down and pulled over as far as she could. She said the other vehicle continued in the center of the road and she even saw Garvin’s face prior to contact and he was motionless.

Garvin told Brown that as he was northbound, he started to get dizzy and his eyesight started going away. He said he remembered suddenly hitting the other vehicle and pulling over.

Garvin was seen by medics and signed a statement of release.

Garvin also told Brown he did not have vehicle insurance.

Both vehicles were driven from the scene. Brown estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to two recent dispatches:

• At 5:47 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 304 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:52 but could not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD left at 5:57 a.m.

• At 6:26 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Opportunity Housing for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:32 and determined the alarm was due to a dirty detector head. The detector head was cleaned, and the alarm was reset. GFD left at 6:50 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed two medical assists and had two disregards.
