New Eagle Scout blazes trail for Heritage Lake residents
HERITAGE LAKE — Thanks to the work of a newly-appointed Eagle Scout and his colleagues, Heritage Lake residents have a new option for exercising in the community.
James C. Schubert, with the help of his fellow scouts, blazed a walking trail through one of the common areas at Heritage Lake. This trail is for the use of Heritage Lake property owners and their families.
The son of Chris and Sarah Schubert of Heritage Lake and member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 301, Danville, James recently earned his Eagle Scout ranking.
The honor was bestowed upon him in his Court of Honor, conducted at his home church, Canaan Community Church.
The trail is approximately a half mile long, making the hike about a mile on the round trip. The property owners have had a walking trail near the south end of the lake property for several years. This trail will give walkers another choice in using the common areas into the northern valley, where one of the streams that feeds Heritage Lake enters the lake property.
Schubert thanked the Heritage Lake Property Owners Association Board of Directors for granting permission for his project and Hendricks Power Cooperative for its assistance in supplying all the mulch needed for the trail.
He also acknowledged all the adults who have made his journey through scouting such a successful experience.
