Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 9:13 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, William D. Neighbors, 42, Cloverdale, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2003 Dodge Durango.

A witness noticed that the vehicle was driving erratically, and as it passed County Road 200 North, it left the right side of the road and hit a guardrail. The vehicle continued north until it stopped due to disabling damages.

Deputy Josh Deal charged Neighbors with a pair of misdemeanors in the incident, driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction and false informing, as well as three citations, leaving the scene of a crash, driving without proof of financial responsibility and driving a vehicle with a plate belonging to another vehicle.

Neighbors declined medical attention.

The vehicle was towed and the guardrail was determined not to be a road hazard.

Deal, who was assisted by deputies Brian Helmer and Scott Ducker, estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000

• At 7:56 a.m. on Friday, Robert W. Parker II, 50, Monrovia, was westbound on U.S. 36 east of Bainbridge in a 2019 Freightliner M2 106 V registered to Noel Towing when a deer jumped into his path and he could not avoid it.

After being hit by the first truck, the deer continued into the eastbound lane, where it was hit by a 2019 Ford F-450 registered to Utility Management and Construction. The driver, David T. Shrout, 25, Bainbridge, said he tried to avoid the animal but hit it with the front-right corner of the truck.

Neither driver was injured. Parker’s truck was towed from the scene, while Shrout’s was available.

Deputy Deal estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.
