Geraldine ‘Gerry’ Fay Roady

Geraldine Fay Roady, 90, of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020 while residing at Sunset Home Assisted Living.

Geraldine “Gerry” was born June 25, 1930 in Winthrop, Me., to Melvin A. and Eula A. (Roberts) Rushing.

Gerry grew up in southern Illinois, going to school in her elementary years in Ava and later to high school in Alton, graduating in 1948.

Following high school, Gerry enrolled in nursing school at St. Luke’s University Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1950. Gerry worked over the course of her career as a surgical and emergency room nurse at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and at Putnam County Hospital in Greencastle.

Gerry married William ”Bill” Roady on Sept. 14, 1951 in Alton, Ill. Bill and Gerry had two sons, Charles “Chuck” (1953) and Rick (1958). They lived and worked, enjoying life on their farm in Putnam County for nearly 60 years until moving in October 2016 to Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Gerry is survived by her sons, Chuck and wife Gayla of Bonners Ferry and Rick of Clearwater, Kan.; grandsons Ryan (Laura) of Bonners Ferry and Tyler (Amber) of Harrison, Idaho; and four great-grandchildren, Claire, Emma, Weston and Owen. She is also survived by six nieces and nephews, Tom, Martha, John, Susie, John Michael, Sabrina and their families.

She was predeceased by her husband Bill of almost 68 years on Feb. 8, 2019, and three sister and brothers-in-law, Marge and Bill Pohlman, Delores and Mike Brugman and Rose and Doug Shelton.

Memorials can be made in Gerry and Bill’s name to the Fillmore Christian Church, 102 N. Main St. Fillmore, IN 46128.

A service took place in Bonners Ferry on Saturday, Sept. 19.
