Mildred McMurtry Copeland

Mildred McMurtry Copeland, formerly of Bainbridge, went to her heavenly home Monday, Nov. 2, 2020 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Millie was born Sept. 17, 1935 in Indianapolis to the late Perry and Juanita Miller McMurtry.

Millie graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1953, Taylor University in 1957 and from Women’s Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1962.

Dr. Millie practiced medicine in Alaska and in Oklahoma (Choctaw Nation). She was known as a compassionate and caring general practitioner.

In 1967 she married Auby “Bill” Copeland in Alaska. From this union, five children called her Mom. Her family always came first followed by her gift of helping others.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her beloved husband Bill, their son David, her brothers Gene McMurtry and John McMurtry and her sister Marilyn Barrios.

She is survived by sons Terry, John (Sandra) and Michael (Elizabeth) and daughter Nancy Houston (Choc); eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as many friends who will remember Millie as a sweet, kind and praying woman of God.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Indiana and Oklahoma.
