Rosario “Rosie” Miles was born March 18, 1935, in Dulag, Leyte, Philippines, and passed peacefully on Dec. 2, 2020, at the age of 85.

In October 1956, Rosie married the love of her life, Joseph Sr. “Joe,” and they were happily married for 64 years.

Rosie was a military spouse and moved with Joe and the children throughout his U.S. Air Force career, with stations in the Philippines, Maine, New York, Nebraska, Virginia and North Carolina before finally settling in Greencastle, the home of DePauw University, where Rosie worked as a culinary supervisor.

After retiring, she enjoyed traveling with Joe and visiting family and friends across the United States. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. A devout Catholic, Rosie attended St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Greencastle and was a member of the St. Paul’s Ladies Guild.

Rosie enjoyed watching sports, especially golf, and was an enthusiastic fan of the LPGA and PGA tours. She also followed the Colts, Pacers, DePauw and Indiana University sports.

Rosie is survived by her husband, Joe Miles; son Joseph Miles Jr. and his wife Ellen of Manassas, Va.; son James Miles and his wife Carol of Tampa, Fla.; son Christopher Miles of Indianapolis; daughter Cathy Miles of Greencastle; and son Michael Miles and his wife April of Indianapolis; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Antonia Pactoranan; her brother Felicito Pactoranan; and sister Nita Pactoranan.

A private family service will be held due to concerns for family and friends during this COVID-19 pandemic.

At a time in the future when it is safe, there will be a celebration of life where family and friends can come together.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in memory of Rosie to the St. Paul’s Ladies Guild, 202 E. Washington St., Greencastle, IN 46135, or to your favorite charity.
